After a long career in travel and food journalism — as an editor with The Los Angeles Times and France’s Michelin Guides, as the author of numerous guidebooks for such publishers as Lonely Planet and Frommer’s, and as a magazine and newspaper writer whose stories won major national awards in the United States — I have taken up residence in Vietnam.
